The Next Generation of Classical Talent
Founded in 2006, the Music Institute of Chicago Academy has quickly established itself as an elite training center for highly gifted pre-collegiate musicians. The selective program is focused on providing a comprehensive musical education that includes, private lessons with Academy artist faculty, a rigorous chamber music component, a stimulating chamber orchestra experience, and accelerated music theory classes. Pianists additionally study keyboard history and literature, improvisation, and keyboard skills in an intimate group setting. A hallmark of the Academy is routine master classes and enrichment offerings with some of the world’s most renowned artists and educators. Significant performance opportunities for developing musicians is also a vital part of the program.
The carefully assembled faculty includes internationally recognized teachers and performers with a passion for developing young talent and an established track record of student achievement.
Overview
Approximately 50 young musicians from around the world, ages 10 to 19, spend thirty Saturdays between mid September and mid May, at The Academy. The program takes place at the Ravinia Festival in the John D. Harza Building, home of the Steans Institute for Young Artists. Academy students have the use of Steinway and Steinway designed Boston & Essex pianos generously provided by Steinway of Chicago .
Program Highlights
The Academy's regular master class schedule features some of the world’s most renowned artists and pedagogues. The entire Academy student body gathers to participate and observe acclaimed musicians share their knowledge, creating an unparalleled educational experience.
Special enrichment classes featuring lectures and discussions by industry leaders provide insight into the music profession, and help students leave The Academy prepared for careers as soloists, chamber musicians, orchestra members and teachers.
Many Music Institute of Chicago Academy students are national prize winners, and matriculate to the nation’s top conservatories and universities.
With the ultimate goal of creating performers for the 21st century, the Music Institute of Chicago Academy provides brilliant young musicians the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to be the leaders in classical music performance and education.
