2016 Repertoire

2016 Chicago International Piano Duos Competition Repertoire

  -  One program of music for a combination of piano four hands and two pianos

      which must be approximately one hour in length (no less than 55’ and

      no more than 65’). The program should preferably contain complete* works.
     *Large scale sonatas in excess of 25’ (i.e. Schubert “Grand Duo”, Brahms

      Op. 34b) may excerpt two movements. Longer suites may excerpt at least

      two movements. 


      Any questions on this matter should be
      addressed in writing to the directors.

  - The program should contain a minimum of  3 stylistic periods, and a
    COMBINATION of one piano, four hands and two pianos.
    (At least one significant example of each.)


  - Thoughtfulness in preparing the program is important in this competition.
    Balance of styles, tempi, periods, etc. is requested.
The programming is as important as the quality of the video.
    Duos failing to meet the program guidelines will not be admitted.

  -  Original works or transcriptions and arrangements by the original
     composer* are permitted.
     *Exceptions: A transcription by an equally distinguished composer/arranger
      is permissible (i.e. Ravel’s transcription of Debussy Nocturnes.)
