2019 Solo Recital Audition Information

2019 information is still listed here.

We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and concern for the health and safety of our students, parents, and faculty, we have decided to cancel the Chicago Suzuki Institute for the summer of 2020. This includes all Short-Term Teacher Training Courses, Every Child Can, Student, Chamber and Advanced Programs. No payments were processed for the institute from any registrations received.

The Music Institute will be offering an online student experience for the original institute dates of Mon, June 29 -  Fri, July 3. The Music Institute of Chicago Virtual Suzuki Festival will offer masterclasses, group classes, and enrichment courses from our renowned faculty. More detailed camp and registration information are posted on main CSI page and under CSI Registration Forms & Downloads.

We wish for you and your family to remain safe and healthy this summer, and to continue keeping music a daily part of your routine. We hope to see you back for CSI 2021, which will be held from July 3 - July 11.

Students wishing to perform should submit a DVD or YouTube link starting June 3 and fill-out the following audition form (available 6/3/19):

Solo Recital Audition Form

Tips for submission:

1. We prefer repertoire from the Suzuki repertoire (Recitals are offered to provide inspiration other students and a model to teachers taking Suzuki training).  However, polished performances of supplemental repertoire will be considered.

2. We strongly recommend that string players play with accompaniment if appropriate (Pieces intended to be unaccompanied are acceptable)

3. Memorization is required

4. Recital performances may not be longer than 6.5 minutes.  For pieces longer than 6.5 minutes, cuts may be recommended at the discretion of the artistic director.

2019 Audition period is open from June 3 through June 9, 2019!

Results will be published here no later than June 22.

Note:  Remember to bring proper concert attire for the solo recitals and final festival concerts.
