Artistic Directors: Claire Aebersold and Ralph Neiweem

Program Director: Katherine K. Lee

  • Winnetka Campus may be used for rehearsals, 300 Green Bay Road, Winnetka
  • This year's festival includes both in-person and online elements.

This summer marks the Chicago Duo Piano Festival's 33rd anniversary season! Founded in 1988 by MIC resident piano duo Claire Aebersold and Ralph Neiweem, the mission of the festival is to foster a deeper interest in the repertoire, performance, and teaching of music for piano, four hands, and two pianos, in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Chicago Duo Piano Festival is pleased to announce a return to some in-person coaching and rehearsals, subject to the status of COVID-19 protocols in July 2021. Student duos will be taught in Nichols Concert Hall by appointment with students and teachers masked and properly distanced, as required. COVID-19 safety policies for studio teaching at MIC will be strictly followed for all festival activities.

There will be a virtual component to the festival as well. This will consist of the following:
•    online coaching of individual parts
•    online coaching of duos sheltered together
•    faculty, guest artist, and student concerts, which will be pre-recorded and broadcast as a livestreamed event

Sunday, July 18 at 2 pm  | Chicago Duo Piano Festival Student Recital

Featuring student participants in the festival.

Students will be paired with one or two duo partners and will receive more intensive coaching on select pieces. Students will be assigned appropriate repertoire and partners based on age and level. Duos who are sheltered at home together may opt to have duo coachings online via Zoom. Adult students currently practicing regularly with more than one partner may arrange coachings accordingly. Large studios will be available for duo rehearsals, by appointment. Repertoire for one piano, four hands will be coached and rehearsed at two pianos.

The format of the festival is subject to change according to COVID-19 restrictions.

Tuition: $520
