Celebrating Youth - Past and Present: Community Music School Project

In connection with the opening concert of the season's Faculty and Guest Artist Series at MIC, "Sonic Youth," we are organizing a community project to celebrate the joys and mysteries of youth both past and present. The "Sonic Youth" concert features MIC faculty members performing a diverse program associated with the theme of youth. This includes works written by young composers, works written for children, and any works that celebrate and honor young people.

Celebrating Youth - Past and Present:  Community Music School Project

We will be creating a collaborative slideshow of digital photos of MIC students, faculty, and staff playing their instruments as a child. Photos may either be current, in the case of our youngest students, or old photos of high school or adult musicians. Our youngest students, those in our Musikgarten classes, are encouraged to participate as well with photos of them playing a drum or ringing bells!

We will be creating photo collages at each campus and a digital slide show to be viewed on our campus monitors and in Nichols Concert Hall on the night of the concert.

To participate, please submit a digital photo (which includes the student with their instrument, or in coachings, or in performance) to our marketing departmentPhoto submission deadline: Saturday, September 9.

Please include:

  • Name of student(s) in the photo
  • Name of current MIC teacher
  • Campus(es) where student studies

We hope to have participation from all of our campuses and all ages.

Please join the fun!  We look forward to seeing your photos!
