Chamber Music FAQ

Who may participate?

  • All intermediate and advanced string, piano, woodwind, brass, harp, guitar, percussion and voice students with strong sight-reading skills

Sample Proficiency

  • Students in second grade or above are encouraged to audition
  • Adults are welcome too!

What kinds of chamber groups are available?

The Music Institute offers a wide variety of opportunities including:


How are groups formed?

Students will be placed in ensemble configurations (i.e. piano duos, trios, quartets) taking into consideration age, scheduling preferences, experience and instrumentation.


Where and when is chamber music offered?

Chamber music is offered at the Downers Grove, Evanston East, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, and Winnetka Campuses.


What performance opportunities are there?
Chamber music participants enjoy informal gatherings that include performance opportunities, sight-reading activites, and master classes.  The location for these gatherings rotates among our campuses.  Formal chamber music recitals occur twice a year in Nichols Concert Hall.  Additionally, groups may perform in departmental recitals, studio recitals, campus recitals and in the community.
