Community Symphony

Larry Eckerling, Director

The Community Symphony is an adult orchestra for musicians with enough skill on their instruments to contribute to a symphony orchestra at an intermediate level and who want music making to be a part of their lives. Students should be able to play their instrument in tune, create a good sound, and have a reasonable degree of sight reading ability and overall musicianship.

This is an educational orchestra, where rehearsing symphonic literature is aimed primarily for the value of learning and enjoyment in the rehearsal setting.  Performance is part of the fall and spring programs primarily because of the educational value associated with the preparation of performing, and the value of the performance itself.

Repertoire selected will be chosen by the conductor prior to each semester in most cases, that appears to be suitable for the ensemble, and compatible with existing artistic and educational goals.

Rehearsals are held on Friday Mornings from 10 am to noon at our Winnetka Campus.  Final dress rehearsal and concerts take place on a weeknight in historic Nichols Concert Hall, Evanston.
