Please note: tickets are only needed for the Peter and the Wolf portion of the Family Day of Music. Every event thereafter is free of charge.

Open House » 9 am

 

Spend your day with the Music Institute of Chicago!  Begin with a morning of music including an open house for families featuring winds, brass and percussion instrument “petting” zoo, student performances and special discounts on lessons and classes.

Enjoy Prokofiev’s classic musical tale featuring the MIC's award-winning ensemble in residence, Quintet Attacca.

Nichols Middle School Advanced Jazz Band

and MIC New Horizons Band » 2-3:30 pm

 

MIC's New Horizons Band for seniors joins forces with Evanston's own Nichols Middle School Advanced Jazz Band for some big band and Latin jazz. MIC Jazz faculty, Audrey Morrison and Victor Garcia, on trombone and trumpet, will sit in with the youth band for some Latin Jazz to end the concert with flare. MIC's Carolyn Merva Roblee and District 65's Cary Jacobs conduct.  Cary and his band will be receiving an award for Excellence in Middle School Music Programs, along with a monetary gift to the program and MIC tuition credits for five deserving students in his band.

 Nichols Middle School Advanced Jazz Band

 

MIC ArtsLink Brass for Beginners and MIC Trumpet Ensembles» 4-5 pm

 

Elementary students from Evanston's Walker and Lincoln Elementary Schools who particpate in MIC's ArtsLink program will demonstrate their growing talent on natural trumpets, followed by MIC's Trumpet Ensembles. All led by MIC faculty member Chris Hasselbring.

Evanston Escola de Samba » 5-6 pm

 

EEDS leads you in a joyous hour of Brazilian music and dance under the direction of Reed Flynt, their new director. EEDS is a multi-generational group open to all. EEDS' samba dance classes for youth and adults are taught at MIC at very friendly rates.  To learn more and register for spring or summer classes click here.
