Every student is a star this summer at the Music Institute of Chicago, from the comfort of your own home! We have altered the curriculum to be well-suited to provide acting, dancing, and singing fundamentals in a virtual, supportive art-making environment. Our virtual classroom experience will provide a more character-driven study of acting and interpreting a song, and our culminating cabaret-style performance will feature on-line friendly scenes and monologues, classic musical theatre, and pop songs chosen in a collaboration between instructors and students. Students will have the opportunity to explore their craft in greater detail, and to experience the satisfaction and thrill that a well-honed musical theatre performance offers. While social distancing has changed the way we teach and learn the performing arts, it precludes neither skill-building nor the thrill of performing for an audience. On-line classes will be broken into manageable units which rotate throughout the day. Brief, hourly breaks will be provided, and, at the end of the day, parents may check with instructors regarding their child’s progress.

Broadway Bound provides an opportunity for young musical theatre actors to work with industry professionals to develop performance skills in dance, voice, and acting. Each student will be given personalized performance pieces to highlight their talents and bring them to the next level in their growth as a young performer. Through creative theatre games, vocal instruction, dance classes, and workshops, students learn practical performance skills they can apply to their performances. Students also build confidence, character, self-esteem, and professional/leadership skills they can bring into the real world. MIC’s Broadway Bound summer session culminates in a final performance of favorite Broadway songs for friends and family to enjoy via Zoom.
