November 7, 2015

Tabby Rhee, 17, Music Institute of Chicago student of Hye-Sun Lee, is one of four finalists of the 2016 Bolz Young Artist Competition.  She will advance to compete at The Final Forte on January 29, 2016. The Bolz Young Artist Competition is a highly regarded statewide competition in which Wisconsin’s young musicians compete for scholarships and the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Madison Symphony Orchestra.

Tabby, a resident of Brookfield, WI,  performed Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47, Mvt. I (Jean Sibelius).

The Final Forte 2016 finalists, selected from Wisconsin high school artists from across the state, competed in two preliminary rounds. Winners of the Bolz Young Artist Competition are featured as soloists with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) during the Spring Young People’s Concert. Each winner also receives a $2,000 scholarship and the Marian Bolz Prize for Distinguished Musical Achievement or the Steenbock Youth Music Award. Up to two Honorable Mention scholarships of $1,000 may also be awarded.

Finalists will perform live with the MSO during the Final Forte held in Overture Hall and broadcasted on Wisconsin Public Television and Wisconsin Public Radio.

This competition has captured an enormous following and numerous honors, including an Emmy nomination, First Place in the “Special Interest” category from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association in 2007, and fifth most-watched program in the February 2007 Nielsen ratings. The 2008 WPT and WPR broadcasts reached more than 60,000 viewers and listeners in the Madison market alone and the 2009 broadcasts reached an estimated 200,000 statewide.
