2016 Blount-Slawson Young Artists Competition

Karisa Chiu, 16, Academy violin student of Almita Vamos, was named first place winner of the 2016 Blount-Slawson Young Artists Competition. As winner, Karisa will perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47, with the Montgomery Symphony on April 25, 2016. Huntingdon College hosted the Montgomery Symphony League's competition on January 30–31. The program brings select U.S. young musicians in grades 7–12 in strings, winds, brass, and percussion to Montgomery for competition, performance, and prizes. First place winners earn $10,000 consisting of a Cash Award of $2,500 and a separate Educational Award of $7,500 with designation towards the study of music.  Academy cellist Nathan Mo, 17, student of Hans Jørgen Jensen, was a finalist in the competition and received a Merit Award.
