Academy Orchestra Concert
Founded in 2006, the Academy is an elite training center at the Music Institute of Chicago for highly gifted pre-college string players and pianists. The Academy Chamber Orchestra is comprised of violin, viola, cello and bass students who rehearse and perform under the batons of artist faculty member and (nternationally respected conductor, Dr. Roland Vamos, and Academy Director Jim Setapen. The orchestra has toured to Turin, Italy and has been featured at Millennium Park, Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University, and at the Music Institute of Chicago’s 81st Gala where the students performed in tribute to CSO Music Director, Maestro Riccardo Muti. Members of the orchestra perform in competitions, festivals and summer programs across the globe. The Academy presents four orchestra concerts each year. Some of the works include: Bartok - Divertimento for Strings, Elgar - Serenade for Strings, and Telemann - Sonata a Quattro.
