Founded in 2006, the Academy Chamber Orchestra is comprised of violin, viola, cello and bass students who rehearse and perform under the baton of Academy Director and Conductor James Setapen. The orchestra has performed in Millennium Park, WFMT radio, and later this month, the chamber orchestra will perform on the Unity Temple Chamber Music Concert Series in Oak Park, IL. Members of the orchestra compete and participate in national and international competitions, festivals, and prominent summer programs like Heifetz and Aspen.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Academy orchestra will present a varied and diverse program of string orchestra music for its opening concert with music from Mozart and Bach (his famous 3rd Brandenburg Concerto), to a work by Black composer Carlos Simon written in memory of several black men killed unjustly by police, to a charming piece titled “Rising Storm” by 11-year-old Sylvia Pine. Sylvia has won First Prize in 30 other international competitions and has composed dozens of works. The concert also features solo works played by Academy seniors Sameer Agrawal and Ma’ayan Kertcher – this program will have something to appeal to everyone.
