About the Distinguished Alumni in Music
This award honors alumni whose pursuits as musicians and music educators embody the Music Institute of Chicago’s values of devotion, persistence and excellence.

About the Distinguished Alumni in a Field other than Music
This award honors alumni whose lives have been enriched and inspired by an ongoing love of music, and who have impacted their communities with creative leadership in fields other than music.

Both awards recognize individuals who embody MIC's belief that excellent music education is a powerful contributor to long-term quality of life for performers, listeners and life-long learners.

The Distinguished Alumni Awards and Concert were also established to inspire and affirm the efforts of our current students and faculty. We gather each year for the concert to acknowledge the commitment of Music Institute of Chicago faculty and families who have helped all of our students on their artistic and personal journeys, and to acknowledge the unique teacher-mentee relationship which is the core of a quality music education.

Nominations and Voting
A committee of faculty, supported by board and staff, determine a slate of candidates whose long term dedication to the school has been demonstrated over the years. Nominees are voted for by alumni, current students and faculty.

Eligible voters may vote once for each award.

Alumni Concert and Winners Ceremony
Winners are honored at an annual concert at Nichols Concert Hall, at which MIC alumni and faculty are showcased and celebrated and alumni are welcomed back.
