Karl attended both Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and the University of Massachussetts at Amherst.

Significant teachers and mentors: 

A few of Karl's principal teachers include: Janet Polk, George Sakakeeny, Stephen Walt, and Bill Buchman.

Awards and achievements: 

Karl came to Chicago in 2004 to join the Civic Orchestra of Chicago of which he was a member until 2006. He is currently principal bassoonist of the Rockford Symphony, the Southern Illinois Music Festival, and has served as principal bassoon of the Kenosha Symphony and the Quad Cities Symphony. He has appeared with many other orchestras including the Elgin Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and Vermont Symphony. He can be heard on the Elgin Symphony's recording of assorted Copland works on the NAXOS label.

Professional affiliations & activities: 

As an active chamber musician, Mr. Rzasa is a proud member of the Fifth House Ensemble based in Chicago, has appeared with CSO's new music series MusicNOW, and has attended the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff, Alberta, Canada as a member of the Hara Quintet in the summer of 2006.

Interests outside of music: 

When Karl is not practicing the art of the bassoon, he likes enjoying a nice steak with a glass of wine in downtown Chicago, spending time at home with his two fat cats, or driving all over town in his diesel powered Volkswagen.
