Education: 

Ms. Cano earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Viola Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Significant teachers and mentors: 

Student of Mark Jackobs and Jeffery Irvine.  She received her Suzuki training from Enid Cleary, with whom she also studied from ages seven through eighteen.  Additionally, she received Suzuki training from Doris Preucil and Katherine Wood.

Teaching philosophy and areas of expertise: 

All children have an unlimited potential to learn to play an instrument. Playing an instrument should also be fun and nurture a child’s creative spirit.

Awards and achievements: 

Ms. Cano is a former member of the Cleveland Opera Orchestra and has performed as a section violist in the Youngstown and Akron Symphony orchestras.

Professional affiliations & activities: 

Ms. Cano belongs to the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is a contributor to the music blog TheContrapuntist.com

 

Interests outside of music: 

Her interests outside of the music world include reading, blogging, and tending to her vegetable garden on her balcony during the summer.

Favorite composers - J. S. Bach, Gustav Mahler, Johannes Brahms. Favorite pieces - J. S. Bach solo violin sonatas & solo cello suites arranged for viola; Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler; Symphony No. 4 by Johannes Brahms; Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky

Favorite musical moment: 

Stepping on the stage for the first time at Symphony Center's Orchestra Hall for a performance with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
