Significant teachers and mentors:
Due to the years she spent in school, Ms. Phillips formed very strong relationships with many talented teachers. Some of the instructors who were most significant in her life were: Jeff Irvine, and Lynne Ramsey at the Oberlin Conservatory, and Rami Solomonov at DePaul University.
Professional affiliations & activities:
Ms. Phillips has worked with the Joffery Ballet, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, the Center for Black Music Research of Columbia College (CBMR), and Elgin Symphony. She has recorded numerous times with the Sinfonietta and CBMR. After studying the baroque orchestra at Oberline Conservatory, Vannia went on to study the International Baroque Festival at Longy, where she performed in master classes with Elizabeth Blumenstock and Dana Maiben. In Chicago, she has played baroque viola with Baroque Band, Chicago Opera Theater, and Urban Baroque. She has also performed on WFMT with the Baroque Band.
