Tony graduated from Illinois State University with a BA in Cello Performance.

Significant teachers and mentors: 

Some of Mr. Porter's biggest inspirations were also his teachers: Ko Iwasaki, Kim Scholes, and Susan Phillips.

Awards and achievements: 

Tony was formerly a regular member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Peoria, Decatur, Bloomington-Normal, and Galesburg Symphonies. He was also the former principal cellist for the Waukegan Symphony, and a featured performer with Harper Symphony Orchestra and Zion Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to performing in the United States, Tony also toured China with Illinois Chamber Symphony String Quartet. He was the conductor of the International youth Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta, and the principal cellist in the Harper Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Porter also had the opportunity to perform with various well-known musicians, such as Pearl Bailey, Louie Belson, Victor Borge, Michael Finestein, David Gates, Al Jarreau, Sherri Lewis, Maureen McGovern, Peter Nero, Mel Thorme, William Warfield, and Joe Williams.

Tony has continued performing with several music groups, such as Kenosha and Evanston symphonies, Illinois Chamber Symphony, Symphonic Pops Orchestra of Chicago, and Navy Pier Pops Orchestra.

Professional affiliations & activities: 

Mr. Porter now teaches at Carthage College in Wisconsin, Lake Forest College, Music Arts School, and Jack Benny Center for the Arts. He is also a faculty member at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and William Rainey Harper College.
