Music, acting, dance, art and storytelling are “smashed up” into an original musical! Perfect for students interested in the fundamentals of creating and performing, or for boys and girls with an interest in the arts who just want to have a good time. Enjoy one or both week-long camps, each ending with a mini-musical created by the campers. Themes are chosen by students, with past themes having included: Lost in Space, Wizards and Cowpokes, and Atlantis Olympics. Daily schedule alternates acting, music, dance, and crafts.

SmashUp! includes age-appropriate skill building in creating and acting a character, understanding of musical dynamics, tempo, and rhythmic patterns, facility with locomotive and non-locomotive dance, body patterning, and popular musical theatre moves, creative storytelling, and songwriting building blocks such as rhyme, repetition, scansion, and character-based lyrics.  The week will culminate in a streamed performance of an original student-devised musical!

Hone your acting, singing, and dancing skills and perform songs and scenes for a virtual audience in this two-week exploration of musical theatre fundamentals. Learn how to approach a showtune from a character-driven perspective or how to “sell” a pop song. Develop your ability to react with authenticity during scenes, hone audition technique, and build your foundation in musical theater dance.

Through scene study, song coaching, dance classes, stage management lessons, and theatre games, your young performer will build confidence and skills towards strong stage performance. MIC’s Broadway Bound summer session culminates in a final performance of favorite Broadway songs for friends and family. Broadway Bound teaches performance technique in an enthusiastic, supportive, and creative environment. Camp will be broken into manageable units which rotate their curricular focus throughout the day.

MIC's Musical Theater Program teaches the fundamentals of stage performance and exposes students to high-level directing through work with musical theater professionals, while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.  Everyone is encouraged to improve their acting, dancing, singing, stagecraft and in some cases, writing skills. By creating new works about the way we live now, students will gain confidence and team building skills at every level.
