Brass for Beginners® for Adults
Instruments and cases provided for duration of the course.
Why should kids have all the fun? Embark on a brass adventure with “Around the World in Twenty-One Trumpets.” This revolutionary method uses a natural (valveless) trumpet to teach the fundamentals of brass playing, offering a physically engaging and intellectually stimulating program for adults who never had an opportunity to learn a brass instrument. In addition to learning the fundamentals of brass, participants will examine and discuss the many historical and cultural contexts in which lip-blown instruments have been used, providing a unique and fascinating perspective on human history. Participants will also have the opportunity to play various historical trumpet replicas, such as trumpets made from bone and various mammal horns, and replicas of historical trumpets such as the Egyptian Snb, Greek Salpinx and Roman Lituus. This summer course is a great introduction to learning any of the modern brass instruments, and a perfect springboard for participation in the New Horizons Band program at MIC.
Summer classes and ensembles begin Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
