Academy Orchestra Concert

Cost

Free and open to the public or via livestream.

Director James Setapen presents a program featuring four Academy seniors as soloists with the orchestra as well as four works for the orchestra alone. Cellist Mia Wimbiscus will perform music of Haydn; violist Sidney Lee a work by Benjamin Britten; and violinists Kelly Kim and Abigail Park will play Vivaldi's energetic concerto for two violins.

The program will also feature three works that each bring a magical atmosphere to the listener. Edward Elgar's Sospiri (Sighs) was written during World War I and is a deeply felt cry of the heart for peace. Samuel Barber's famous Adagio for Strings has a haunting melody that, once heard, cannot be forgotten. And Gustav Mahler's Adagietto, a love letter to his recently married Alma, is one of the most moving and beautiful valentine gifts ever conceived.

The program will conclude with a rousing arrangement of melodies from the movie "The Pirates of the Caribbean".
