Summer is a great time to make music. Whether you're learning an instrument for the first time, returning to music after a long hiatus, or continuing lessons, the Music Institute of Chicago has a wide variety of summer opportunities for all ages and level designed to fit your schedule and interests.

Summer Camps & FestivalsMIC Summer Camps

Delve into music and spend some extra time honing your skills while enjoying conversation and friendship with fellow music-lovers! MIC offers summer camps, retreats, and "intensives" for youth and adults across a variety of instruments and at Evanston, Winnetka, and Lake Forest locations.  Browse offerings by month, age, or instrument.

Play musically with your baby, develop a strong musical bond with your toddler, and lay foundational skills for musical literacy and listening through Musikgarten music and movement classes for babies-age 6.

Roots & Rock

Teenage guitar player smilingMake new friends, have fun, and build your musical chops with Roots & Rock classes at MIC! Get started with beginning and intermediate guitar, ukulele, and mandolin and music production classes; join the band with Bluegrass and Klezmer ensembles; or dive into music theory fundamentals and learn how to put chords, scales, and modes together into great music across folk, blues and rock traditions.

JazzJazz Combos & Improvisation Classes at MIC

Learn jazz standards, delve into jazz theory and history, and unlock your creativity by building your improvisational skills. Summer jazz combo and improvisation classes for high school students adults are available for all instruments and voice.

Jazz Jams - Meet and play with other jazz musicians at beautiful Nichols Concert Hall.  Open to all instrumentalists and vocalists.  Piano and drumset provided. Members of the Music Institute of Chicago jazz faculty (rotating) will be on hand at the session.

Adult EnsemblesMIC Concert Band - with Timothy Cook

MIC Concert Band - Led by Timothy Cook, the MIC Concert Band is designed for adults of all ages.  If you played an instrument earlier in life and are ready to take it up again, MIC can help you get back in shape quickly and recapture the excitement of playing music. If you have never played an instrument before, it's never too late to give it a try! Meet new people and enjoy making music in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere.

Music Institute Chorale Summer Sing-alongSummer Sing-along at MIC - Mozart Requiem
Featuring: Mozart's Requiem

Join conductor Daniel Wallenberg and the Music Institute Chorale for its annual summer sing-along.  This year Mozart's Requiem, a chorale masterpiece and Mozart's final work, is featured. Join the Chorale for July rehearsals, or just come join the sing-along.
