Faculty member Sarah Plum has developed a new method of learning scales and will be publishing a book with this groundbreaking approach. In these classes, participants will dissect and improve their scales while also learning all about left-hand technique, shifting, and intonation. This is a great class to prepare scales for auditions and all-state, improve technique, and make practicing more efficient.

Key components

•   Learn, dissect, and perfect 3-octave scales
•   Work on and refine shifting and intonation from a unique perspective
•   Build dexterity
•   Learn how to integrate scales into daily practice

    Prerequisite(s)

    Level 1
This class is for students who have some experience playing in 5th position, have completed Suzuki Book 4 or repertoire of a similar level, and are ready to begin to learn 3-octave scales.

Level 2  (offered in-person or online)
This class is for students who can confidently play five or six 3-octave scales and would like to improve them, possibly in preparation for all-state or other competitions.

Level 3 (offered in-person or online)
This class is for advanced students who can confidently play most major and minor 3-octave scales. Participants will focus on methods to perfect their scales and work on advanced technique.
