Fall 2023 Group Classes for Youth and Adults

 

Broadway Violin and Viola Choir (ages 10-17)Learn more or register >>
Explore selections from films and musicals including Frozen, Wicked, Into the Woods and more! This is the equivalent of show choir for violin and viola! The semester will culminate with an exciting performance.

Virtuoso Strings (grade 6-12) |  Learn more or register >>
The Music Institute of Chicago Virtuoso Strings is a performing and touring chamber ensemble consisting of 20-30 young performers from the Chicagoland area. This ensemble's repertoire for concert programs consists primarily of classical music, including the music of Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and many others. The repertoire also integrates different styles of music from various ethnic, cultural, and religious traditions. Students do not need to study privately at the Music Institute of Chicago to participate.

Piano Repertoire (adults) | Learn more or register >>
Prerequisites: some knowledge of music theory, piano playing at upper intermediate level (Bach Inventions or above)
This class presents the staples of the piano repertoire, famous pianists, evolution of the keyboard, compositional forms, and the ability to read piano concerto scores.

Duo Piano Class (ages 8+ through adults) | Learn more or register >>
MIC resident piano duo and the award-winning co-founders of the Chicago Duo Piano Festival, Claire Aebersold and Ralph Neiweem, teach this bi-weekly duo piano class. This class offers an exploration of the repertoire and performance of music for piano, four hands, and two pianos, in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Students will be assigned appropriate repertoire and partners based on age and level and will receive coaching on select pieces.
