Louis Privitera is Vice President of Programs at the Music Institute of Chicago (MIC), bringing more than 15 years of experience in arts leadership, performance, music education, curriculum design, and community engagement. His career has focused on developing and strengthening programs, creating meaningful partnerships, and expanding access to high-quality musical experiences, guided by the belief that artistic excellence and access are mutually reinforcing.
Prior to joining MIC, Privitera served as Community Engagement Manager and Chair of Chamber Music at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School, where he provided strategic leadership across a broad portfolio of education and community engagement initiatives. His work included leading the organization’s Carnegie Hall Link Up partnership, cultivating institutional and community partnerships, advancing programs serving 10,000+ elementary students in communities throughout the region, and increasing enrollment by 25% during his tenure.
Previously, Privitera spent 11 years as founding violist and Artistic Director of Tetra String Quartet, a nonprofit ensemble dedicated to infusing performance with public service. During his tenure, Tetra brought professional chamber music to underserved communities while investing deeply in the next generation of musicians, most notably through the creation of the Tetra Chamber Music Institute, a first-of-its-kind after-school chamber music program in the Southwest.
Privitera has shared his work and perspectives at the American String Teachers Association National Conference, Stanford University’s Summer Arts Institute, and TEDx. A violist by training, he holds a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from Arizona State University.
