Aebersold & Neiweem Piano Duo

Claire Aebersold and Ralph Neiweem, both faculty and ensemble in residence at the Music Institute of Chicago, enjoy an international career as proponents of music for both piano duet and two keyboards. Described as "consummate practitioners of pianism" by the Washington Post, the duo has worked together for more than 25 years and concertized across North America and Europe with appearances in New York, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Santa Fe, Vienna, Rome, Florence, and more. They tour annually and have performed piano concertos with orchestras including the Chicago Philharmonic and the Vienna Tonkunstler. The duo can be heard often on WMFT radio, with more than 30 live broadcast recitals, and has also been featured on PBS and RAI-TV Italy. They have judged international piano duo competitions including "Twentyfingers" in Rome, Italy. In 2011, they organized the “Liszt 200” International Duo Piano Competition at Nichols Concert Hall, and they continue to organize national and international duo piano competitions for youth and adults. Aebersold and Neiweem have commissioned significant new works for the piano duo, including pieces by Joseph Turrin and Patrick Byers. The duo’s CDs on the Summit label include Four Hand Reflections and music of Brahms and Schubert. Aebersold and Neiweem are the founders of the award-winning Chicago Duo Piano Festival, which celebrates 30 years during the 2017-2018 season.
