Titus Underwood is passionate about creating projects that advocate for and showcase black artists and uses film and music to bring his artistic vision to life and re-imagine classical music. He currently serves as Principal Oboe of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and is the  2021 recipient of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence award.

Titus has been teaching music lessons and classes, and coaching chamber music since he was a student at Cleveland Institute of Music in 2006. He has maintained a private studio and taught in precollege programs at C.I.M., Juilliard, and the National Youth Orchestras program at Carnegie Hall. He has taught in the Nashville Symphony’s Accelerando program since 2017, and he teaches and mentors for the National Alliance for Audition Support program maintained by the League of American Orchestras, The Sphinx Organization, and New World Symphony.

Principal oboe of the Nashville Symphony, Titus Underwood presents a multimedia performance where classical music sits comfortably beside spoken word and film. He is passionate about creating projects that advocate for and showcase Black artists. By intricately weaving film and music together, he brings his artistic vision to reimagine classical music. His most acclaimed project, a timely rendition of “Lift Every Voice,” became a viral Internet sensation with more than 1 million views.
