MIC Weather Policy

Please note the following inclement weather school closing policies which were developed to communicate most effectively to MIC faculty, staff, and families. The policies include specific guidelines regarding Musikgarten classes, morning lessons and ensembles, and weekend lessons and classes. The policies are as follows:

1. On weekdays, the MIC administration will decide before 12:30 pm whether or not to close. This will be communicated to faculty and staff via email.
2. Closings for Saturday lessons and classes will be announced no later than 5 pm on Friday.
3. Closings for Sunday lessons and classes will be announced no later than 5 pm on Saturday.
4. This status – whether open or closed – will be posted on the homepage of the MIC website no later than 1 pm and an e-blast will be sent to all MIC families and faculty.
5. Individuals without convenient internet access are encouraged to call the general MIC number (847.905.1500) after 1 pm.
6. Musikgarten morning classes will follow the school closures in the area. (e.g., if Winnetka schools are closed, Winnetka Musikgarten classes will be cancelled)
7. Morning ensembles (Community Symphony, New Horizons Band) will be addressed on a case by case basis. Members will receive an e-mail from the conductor notifying them whether or not their class will be cancelled.
8. Cancellation of private instruction that occurs on weekday mornings will be addressed on a case by case basis with the private instructor.

We make our best efforts to consult various reliable sources when making decisions regarding whether or not to remain open. Please remember that lessons missed due to school closings need to be made up.
