American Protege International Piano & Strings Competition

Academy violinist Irina Casasnovas, 16, student of Almita Vamos, has been named the Second Place Winner (Intermediate Category) of the American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition 2017. Irina will perform in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in an upcoming concert. Irina, who moved to Chicago to enroll in the Academy, is from Costa Rica. The American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition was open to school students and adults of all nationalities and countries. Musicians from 19 countries applied for this year’s competition including: United States, Canada, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Italy, Germany, Spain, Finland, Bahrain, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia. 

 

Former winners include Academy cellists Richard Li, 2015 and Nathan Mo, 2014.
