Jazz Studies adds Strings

Jazz Studies adds Strings

The Music Institute of Chicago welcome jazz violinists James Sanders and Diane Delin to the faculty. Jazz Studies at MIC is please to add strings to the program and now offers private jazz instruction in strings as well as improvisation classes for strings and combos that include strings.

James Sanders
Sanders is a classically trained violinist with a masters degree in performance from Yale University. Shortly after earning his degree, his attention was drawn to both jazz improvising and the Latin music he absorbed growing up as the son of a Dominican mother in a diverse urban environment.  He founded Conjunto in 2001.  In Conjunto, jazz freedom, intricate instrumental virtuosity and propulsive dance rhythms find equal footing in a cohesive whole, making music for mind, body, and soul. Sanders’ recent CD release Blue Violin is the culmination of a two decade exploration of the art of jazz. James Sanders calls it his tribute to the masters of the jazz violin tradition.

Diane Delin
Delin is a violinist, composer, recording artist and educator.  Her jazz work has earned her the “Rising Star” award four times in Downbeat Magazine’s Critic’s Poll.  Delin studied jazz with saxophonist Joe Daley and holds a bachelor’s degree in performance from Northwestern University studying, classically with Edgar Muenzer of the Chicago Symphony.  Her performance career includes concerts at Ireland’s Cork Jazz Festival, Sunset-Sunside in Paris, the Chicago Jazz Festival, PBS Centerstage Live Broadcast, New Orleans Snug Harbor, Portland IN Performing Arts Series and the Kingston New York Jazz Festival.   Delin has recorded several CD’s as  leader of her own ensemble on the Blujazz label.
