Jazz Studies

MIC Jazz Studies Program - Celebrating 10 Years!

The Music Institute of Chicago provides opportunities for students of all ages and levels to explore jazz through private instruction, combos and improvisation classes.  Work with a jazz faculty that includes some of Chicago's most respected jazz musicians as they bring their deep knowledge of both jazz history and the current scene into every class and lesson.

MIC jazz students become leaders in their middle and high school jazz programs and enjoy performance opportunities at Nichols Concert Hall as well as community venues. Teachers nurture each student's skill and style development as they learn to play by ear and improvise.

Summer Session Begins: June 15, 2021

Summer classes are currently being taught via Zoom in an interactive style, with the intention to gradually incorporate a combination of remote and in-person teaching (for those who are interested). MIC will proceed with an abundance of caution, basing all decisions on the most current guidelines provided by the CDC and the governor.

Fall Semester Private Instruction begins September 7, 2021

Fall Semester Group Classes, Combos and Ensembles begin September 21, 2021
