Jazz Studies

Classes initially via Zoom

Classes will initially be taught via Zoom in an interactive style, with the intention to gradually incorporate a combination of remote and in-person teaching (for those who are interested). MIC will proceed with an abundance of caution, basing all decisions on the most current guidelines provided by the CDC and the governor.

The Music Institute of Chicago provides opportunities for students of all ages and levels to explore jazz through private instruction, combos and improvisation classes.

A faculty comprised of some of Chicago's most respected jazz musicians bring a deep knowledge of the current jazz scene and jazz history into every class and lesson.

MIC jazz students become leaders in their middle and high school jazz programs and enjoy performance opportunities at Nichols Concert Hall as well as community venues. Teachers nurture each student's skill and style development as they learn to play by ear and improvise.
