A recognized national leader in community arts education, MIC is one of one of the three largest community music schools in the country, setting national standards for excellence in music education. Founded in 1931, the Music Institute of Chicago was the first community music school in Illinois to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the body that accredits college/university music departments.
In the Academy, students benefit from artist faculty who ensure the highest quality education, and work together to provide best practices in their respective fields.
The carefully assembled faculty represents internationally recognized teachers and performers with a passion for developing young talent and an established reputation for student achievement.
When students are accepted into the Academy, they may request a particular teacher, or audition adjudicators will make a teacher recommendation based on the audition and interview.
Almita Vamos
Almita Vamos is considered one of the country’s greatest violin teachers. She is currently on faculty at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy and Roosevelt University, and has received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching six times as well as the ASTA (American String Teachers Association) Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award. Many of her Academy students have major solo, chamber, and orchestra careers around the world.
